The Daily vocabulary
1. Subdued(adjective):- (of a person or their manner) quiet and rather reflective or depressed.(मातहत)
Synonyms- sombre, low-spirited, downcast, sad, dejected
Antonyms – cheerful happy
Example- I Felt subdued because I failed in exams.
2.ulterior (adjective):-existing beyond what is obvious or admitted; intentionally hidden.(गुप्त)
Synonyms- unrevealed, concealed, hidden, covert
Antonyms – overt, undisguised
Example- she definitely had a ulterior motive.
3.truncate (verb):- shorten (something) by cutting off the top or the end.(काट-छांट)
Synonyms- curtail, dock, prune, trim, lop
Antonyms – extend,enlarge,prolong
Example- Television coverage of the event was truncated by a technical fault.
4. Apprehension(noun):- anxiety or fear that something bad or unpleasant will happen.
Synonyms- disquiet,uneasiness
Antonyms – confidence,assurance
Example- he watch match with come apprehension.
5.vet(verb):-make a careful and critical examination of (something).
Synonyms- assess, evaluate, appraise ,scrutinize,
Antonyms – overlook
Example- Doctor vet the dog problem.
6. irritant(noun):-a substance that causes slight inflammation or other discomfort to the body.
Synonyms- annoyance,pinprick, vexation
Antonyms -balm,consolation
Example- The noise of traffic is irritant to city dwellers
7. stricture(noun):-.a restriction on a person or activity.(निंदा)
Synonyms-constraint, restriction, limitation, control, restraint
Antonyms -freedom,leeway,breathing,elbow
Example- His strictures on their lack of civic virtue”
8. bolster(verb):-a long, thick pillow that is placed under other pillows for support.(आधार)
Synonyms- fortify,reinforce,buttress
Antonyms -hinder,impair,undermine
Example- he tried to bolster their morale
9.Travesty(noun):-a false, absurd, or distorted representation of something.(हास्य जनक अनुकरण)
Synonyms- :-mockery,caricature,sham
Antonyms – reality,sincerity,genuineness
Example- The play in their view ,a travesty of the truth.
10.Embark- (verb)-begin (a course of action).(प्रारंभ करना)
Synonyms- begin, start, commence, undertake
Antonyms – cease,conclude,terminate
Example- I embark my graduation from delhi university.
